How to Cure Resin With Ultra Violet

Cure resin on a windshield with ultraviolet light. The resins used for repairing windshields will only work with ultraviolet light to smooth out and set the newly repaired windshield with resin. Once the anaerobic resin has been cured over the break of a windshield, you need to use pit resin to smooth out the glass and make the windshield look as good as new.

Instructions

    Gather your tools. Have cellophane patches and a couple of resins, an anaerobic resin and a pit resin like Stone Chip or Chipfix, Inc. that work with ultraviolet light. You also need a UV light. Pull out a regular razor blade to scrape the glass and most importantly for windshield repair will be the bridge.

    Understand the process of repairing a windshield of make of. Windshields have two layers of laminated glass. When a rock or something hits the windshield, air gets in between the two layers, which will make the break contract until you have a long crack across the windshield. When the resin is injected inside the break, the bridge fills up the cracks while at the same time it pulls out any air that has been caught between the glass layers.

    Use Ultraviolet light to cure the resins at two different stages during windshield repair. In windshield repair you are working with anaerobic resin. Air wont cure anaerobic resins like it will do with other types. Ultraviolet rays from the sun will work as well, but if you are in a garage or its not a sunny day, youll need the UV lamp.

    Apply the first layer of resin inside the two layers of glass with the Bridge after youve drilled out the break. With the Bridge attached, use a UV lamp to cure the resin.

Problems With Brake Lines

A brake system is composed of three primary elements: the master cylinder that sends fluid through the lines, the lines themselves, and the slave cylinders (brake calipers) that squeeze on the pad and stop the car. Though engineered to outlive the car by several years, lines can sometimes become rusted, damaged or dry-rotted, causing anything from a slow leak and soft pedal to a catastrophic accident.

Physical Damage

    The most common type of physical damage is chafing (scraping) of the flexible rubber portion of the line that connects the wheel cylinder to the metal chassis lines. Though these lines are generally suspended by clips from the factory, these often plastic clips work loose or break, causing the line to rub against or become pinched by suspension components.

Dry-Rotting

    Rubber brake lines are made of a vulcanized rubber very similar to a tires, and so are subject to dry-rotting. Over time, vital chemicals are leached from the rubber, causing it to lose its elasticity and form small cracks that may eventually leak. This condition is normal for cars of a certain age, but may be accelerated if the vehicle is regularly driven over salted winter roads.

Rust

    Though brake lines are generally made of aluminized or galvanized metal, almost all will eventually rust over time. This will usually happen where the line passes through a low point in the frame, or where it is secured to the frame with a metal clip. Like dry rot, this is normal for older cars, but will happen significantly faster if the car is regularly driven over salted roads.

Artificial Corrosion

    By definition, an acid is a chemical that dissolves metal. Many batteries, especially those found in older cars, leak a certain amount of acid. Though most of this acid is diluted and causes little harm to the vehicle, it is quite possible for some of the dried chemical to land on your brake lines, eating through their protective coatings and drastically hastening the corrosion process.

Line Upgrade

    Steel-braided brake lines are the line of choice for replacing worn-out rubber, and are proven much safer. Not only will these flex lines far outlast their stock counterparts, they are also designed not to bulge as much under system pressure. This means you can expect a great deal more feel and response from a braking system with braided lines than one with stock rubber.

How to Replace a Rear Window With a Slider

Trucks come with lots of different options, including solid back glass and sliding rear windows, also known as a slider. While a solid back window offers added security, a slider will allow wind to flow easier throughout the cab, making driving with the windows down a more comfortable experience. It also allows communication with those in a camper, if one is mounted on the truck. If you want to install a sliding back window in your truck, you can do it yourself with the help of an assistant and some hand tools.

Instructions

    1

    Open the cab doors and use the flathead screwdriver to work the rubber seal around the back window out from the inside of the vehicle towards the outside. The flathead screwdriver can push the rubber lip out, then can be drug around the mounting lip to remove the rubber. Make sure the assistant is holding the glass from the outside while you are pushing out the seal. Then remove the back glass.

    Place the rope in the rubber seal around the slider window, leaving at least 12-inches of rope hanging outside of the rubber seal. Make sure the rope goes around the entire perimeter of the glass and stays in the channel.

    Place the window in the window channel on the cab of the truck with the excess rope on the inside of the vehicle. Have your assistant hold the glass in place while you move to the inside of the vehicle.

    Start to pull one end of the rope, parallel to the ground, while the assistant pushes the glass in towards the interior. This is going to pull the rubber seal out and around the factory lip, mounting the glass in place.

    Continue to pull the rope around the glass while the assistant follows you, pushing in the window. Once youve gone around the entire window, you may have to use the flathead screwdriver to pull some of the rubber seal towards the inside of the cab, just to clean it up a bit.
